National Night Out

Library outreach is a fundamental part of patron services. Meeting patrons where they are at external events helps build connections, foster information/resource access, and show the library as a community asset and partner. As opportunities arise, I have attended outreach events and opportunities, such as National Night Out on August 9, 2023.

During the course of the afternoon and early evening, I was able to talk to a handful of attendees about library resources and programs. I was also able to meet with a few other booth operators to forge connections for potential future programs. Our booth was very popular among children of all ages who wanted to play with the Giant Jenga game we had out.

ALA Core Competencies:

  • 6D. Implement principles, concepts, and techniques for understanding and assessing the information needs of a community, and understand the ways the library can assist and collaborate in meeting those needs.

  • 6E. Engage in evaluation and assessment of programs, services, and partnerships, with input from the community being served.
